Cell Phone Blogger

So I just got a new phone. And there's a Blogger  app. And I can upload pics from my phone... This is handy!

I don't even know when the last time was that I posted. Surely life has changed. I'm pregnant (yes, again) with our fourth munchkin. Can you guess what this is?

Proud Mama

It's so amazing to look back and see how much my kids are changing. Here are some pictures from my brother's wedding in April.

Oh how I love these guys!

Time Flies

They say that "time flies when you're having fun". Sometimes it does, and sometimes time just flies. These last months have been a whirlwind. My Handsome has been working on this project lately for work that is just plain awful. We don't see each other, we're both stressed out, and we both feel like single parents. We're working on connecting more, and things are improving.

It's strange, I feel behind on a lot of things and it's like I am purposely making myself so because it's something I have control over. I resist doing things I should because I know that it would be "proper" for me to do them now, rather than my choice to consciously do it, if that makes sense. I have been seeing this in my knitting a lot lately. I've been putting of working on the projects I owe people because I want to work on something that doesn't need to be done right now, that's my choice to work on it. I don't know if I'm making sense, but I'm putting together lately that I feel out of control of things in my life and I'm struggling to find things I can control.

But, everyone is healthy, our house is warm (most of the time, unless your Handsome steals all your covers), and can you believe Baby Blue is almost a year old already?! Really... how did that happen?!

d.e.a.d.t.i.r.e.d.

I started my new job today. I. Am. So. Tired. I was up at 6, showered, packed a lunch, dug up my ss card, got kids' clothes and diapers ready, got my pump together, woke and dressed the kids, and headed out. I dropped the kids at my friend's, who lives 5 min from my store, tried to feed Baby Blue one last time and was at work at 7:30am. I trained all morning, left at 11:30 for lunch and drove over to feed BB on my lunch, went back to the store and worked until 4pm. I picked up the kids, fed BB again, and headed home to make dinner. After that? Mmm, nothing. I've nursed BB a bunch of times, read the forums for my online class, and farted around on my laptop.

Yes, I should be cleaning because I have a babysitter coming over tomorrow but you know what? I'm exhausted. Yes, there are loads of moms who do this every day - work 8hrs and then do all the "mom" stuff each night. This, however, is not my norm. Dh had drill tonight so he left around 6:15 and didn't get home until 9:15. He came home and I had started getting the kids ready for bed. He kicked me downstairs and said he'd get all 3 to bed (BB was pretty much already asleep, so mostly it is just the 2 "big kids"). I so appreciate the gesture, especially since I'll be the first to admit I hate bedtime, but I just want to sleep. I don't even want to sit down here and knit (this means there's something really wrong in my world), I just want to go to bed.

Fortunately I don't start until 11 tomorrow, but I may need to run to the grocery store. The more I think about it though the more I suspect they may get a very late breakfast of eggs with sausage or pancakes. None of those would require a trip to the grocery store and I plan on sleeping as long as possible tomorrow.

Ice Cream

It's been awhile. I keep thinking I should get back over here and post but then there's all this pressure that it's a really amazing post or I have something riveting to say. I don't.

But I am eating ice cream.

Starbucks ice cream to be exact (I had a coupon). Which is kind of fitting since I start working there next week. It's a basic job, but I have to tell you... I'm nervous. Nervous to work at Starbucks, you ask? Yep. I haven't had a "real" job in almost 5 years. Baby Blue isn't even 7mos old yet, I've never left my babies for this long this young. And I'm sure he'll be fine, and yes, lots of moms do it, but I don't.

And I'm going back to school this semester. Did I mention that?

Big News!

Well, it finally happened. I had a baby! Our little man (yes, we thought he was going to be a girl) was born Saturday 1/30 at 6:46pm. He was 9lb 12oz and 22.5" long. He's a monster.

This is my first pass at a comprehensive, all-put-together birth story so bear with me.

It went very quickly once I actually was convinced this was "real" labor. I had been having contractions every evening for almost a week so I was worried about being "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" since I thought I was in labor a couple times before. I woke up Saturday morning and started having ctx as soon as I got up. In the past week they had only been in the evening so I thought this may be a little different. I had lost some of my mucus plug on Thursday and Friday so that was encouraging. I continued to have contractions spread apart, around 1pm they were still 15 minutes apart so I wasn't sure if this was "it". We went to my parents' house to use my brother's CAC card reader (it's a military thing) to figure some stuff out with our insurance. We left there around 5pm and made a stop at the grocery store. I stayed in the car with the sleeping kids while dh ran in to pick up dinner and a few odds and ends. We got home around 5:45, he carried the still sleeping children inside where they stayed asleep and I came in to start timing my contractions before I called my midwife as I knew she'd want to know their frequency and duration. My husband called my mom around 5:50 and told her she should probably come. Mom texted my sister and she decided to come right away too.

I called my midwife at 6:13pm. She was at a movie and left immediately to run home, grab her oxygen, and head over. I wasn't sure if she needed to come yet but my last births have been very hectic at the end and I thought it would be nice to have them there before we *really* needed them for once. My sister arrived, got the camera out, and set to getting the bed made and ready. She rubbed my back through a couple contractions. I was in my bedroom and told her that dh would be angry if my water broke on the carpet.

I had a big contraction where I felt the baby move down and felt some pressure. I grabbed the phone and handed it to dh who was just finishing mopping the floor in the bathroom. I was trying to communicate to him that I wanted him to call the midwife and tell her what I felt. I walked into the "birth room", squatted down for another contraction, and explained again, "I need you to call Emme and tell her... my water just broke." I made sure we got the time (6:30) and went into the bathroom. Dh called the midwife who decided she shouldn't go home but come straight here. My mom arrived and I was in the bathroom through a few contractions. I wasn't sure if I felt pushy or not but told them I thought I might have to push. Dh ran downstairs to get the other midwife's phone number since she was closer and I walked into the birth room. I decided that I was indeed pushing. The midwife was only a few minutes away. They put her on speakerphone and dh got down to business.

My sister grabbed some towels for him and he got behind me, I was standing bending over leaning on the birth tub. Dh jumped into "business" mode and calmly waited to see baby emerge. After a few pushes the head came partially out, he checked for a cord but couldn't find anything, provided counterpressure, and then out came our little... boy?! He said that it was a boy and I thought he was joking for a minute. He wasn't. Dh handed the baby to my sister and he suctioned his mouth and nose and our little man started to cry. I stood there and laughed in complete disbelief at what had just happened. My in-laws were about to leave to come get the kids (so we could labor alone for awhile) when dh called and said the baby was here. Meanwhile the midwives arrived to take over and dh got dd who had woken up and brought her in.

I decided to try to sit down and hold the baby and get him skin-to-skin. Ds woke up and came in, thrilled to see his new baby brother.

I hadn't delivered the placenta yet, but we determined that the cord was no longer pulsing and decided to clamp and cut it. Dh cut the cord, figuring he'd finish the job he started.

We handed the baby to my mom and I stood up and delivered the placenta. I got cleaned off and headed into the bedroom. We got settled in, made sure my bleeding was under control, and let my in-laws come up to meet him. They hung out awhile and we called the midwives back up to do the newborn exam and see how big our little guy was. I was thoroughly shocked when she measured his length at 22.5". My mom said, "No wonder you were feeling him in your ribs all the time!"

His head measured 15-1/8" around - many newborns have 13-14" heads. 15" is huge. They did the rest of the measurements and then weighed him... 9lb 12oz.

And then my chin officially hit the floor. I gave birth to a monster. He doesn't look huge, probably because he is so long, but his stats continue to amaze me.

So here we are, our new family, all 5 of us. Our new baby has surprised us in just about every fashion, and he's only 2 days old. Honestly I couldn't be happier with how it all worked out. I'm pleased as punch and have 3 perfect kids. I am truly blessed.

Still Here

I guess I'm eating my words now, aren't I? :) I'm currently *still* pregnant. I really can't believe it.

I had a prenatal on Thursday which made me feel better. I have come to terms with a 1/20 edd instead of 1/16, which makes me 4 days earlier so only 41+3 instead of 42 today. This gives me until Wednesday to reach 42 weeks and then possible other interventions. I was concerned about the baby's position, if there were some reason why baby isn't dropping down further and putting pressure on my cervix or if there's just too much fluid. The midwives both agreed that the fluid level appears to be fine by their palpations (which is a guess) and that baby seems to be positioned fine. They did give me a referral to get a biophysical profile done in case I wanted one. I may go in on Monday if I haven't had the baby by then.

Other excitement is that we don't know if we have health insurance right now. I thought that since dh was home the Army couldn't screw with us anymore, but apparently I was wrong. While he was gone we were on TriCare Standard - the kids and I. I was told by TriCare reps that when dh returned we'd get put on TAMP coverage for 180 days, which gives us time to find our own insurance or enroll in TriCare Reserve Select (which is our plan). I got logged into TriCare online today and it says we are not covered. ??? So now it's Saturday, I could have this baby any time now, TriCare is closed until Monday, and I don't know if I have insurance. Nice, huh? I have been talking with a guy at the Family Assistance Center (who is a gem, I must add), and he's trying to get ahold of his local contact to see if we are indeed covered in TAMP and if not we have to quickly enroll in Reserve Select before I have this baby so we can get the birth paid for. I don't know how the coverage is different for Reserve Select vs TAMP/Standard either, hopefully it's similar so our homebirth will be paid for.

Oh the joys...
